Privacy policy
What we collect, what we don't, and what happens when you click a buy link.
Last updated: September 4, 2026. Chord & Case (“we”, “us”) is published by Fathom & Foundry and operates chordandcase.com. This page explains what happens to information when you use the site.
What we do not collect
We do not require an account, and there is nothing to log into. We do not run a newsletter, so we do not hold a mailing list. We do not sell, rent or share personal information with anyone, and we do not accept payments, so we never see or store payment details.
Information you give us
The only way to send us information is the contact form, which collects your name, email address, a topic and your message. That is sent to us by email so we can reply. We keep it for as long as it takes to deal with your message and any follow-up, and we do not add you to any list.
The form uses three anti-spam measures: a hidden field that real people never fill in, a check on how long the form was open before submission, and a per-address submission limit. The last of those means we briefly hold your IP address in memory to count submissions. It is not written to any database and it does not persist.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful, how many people read them, and which recommendations get clicked. Google sets cookies and processes this data on our behalf; it tells us aggregate patterns and does not tell us who you are.
We record one custom event, affiliate_click, when someone clicks a buy button. It records the merchant, the destination, and which page the click came from. It does not record anything about you.
You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely with Google’s opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking analytics scripts in your browser or with an extension. The site works normally either way — nothing on it depends on analytics running.
Affiliate links
Product links on this site route through our own redirect at /go/ and then on to the retailer, with our Amazon Associates identifier attached. That identifier tells Amazon the visit came from us so a commission can be credited. It does not identify you to us.
Once you arrive at Amazon or any other retailer, that company’s own privacy policy applies and ours no longer does. Amazon in particular sets its own cookies and we have no control over or visibility into them. The commercial arrangement is described on our affiliate disclosure page.
Cookies
The cookies set on this site come from Google Analytics. We set no advertising cookies of our own, run no ad network, and use no cross-site tracking pixels.
You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings. Doing so will not break anything here.
Hosting and images
The site is hosted on Vercel, which processes standard server request data such as IP address and user agent in order to serve pages and protect against abuse.
Some product images are served from Amazon’s image servers. Loading them makes a request to Amazon from your browser, in the same way that any embedded image does.
Children
This site is written for adults buying instruments, frequently for children. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Your choices
Because we hold so little, the options are simple. You can opt out of analytics as described above. You can email us to ask what we hold from a contact-form message and to have it deleted. And you can use the site without giving us anything at all, which is what most readers do.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. We will not make a change that reduces your privacy and backdate it.
